  1. Action speaks louder than words, what planet are you on.Try reading the front page of the T&A Monday 11th Nov 2013
MAG has probably been one of the most proactive groups out there to save as much Green Belt as possible. Short of buying the land to stop the money grabbing developers what do you suggest they could have done!!

    • I think one of the problems has been insufficient communication and part of that was down to the fact that the ‘official’ website was not working – and even when it was (is) it is not conducive to true (ie two-way) communication; other forms of communication – such as newsletters – tend to be costly, so limited and infrequent. This ‘alternative’ website was set up principally to improve communications within the Menston community and now that the MCA has its own section on this site there is the opportunity for the MCA (and through it MAG) to communicate more frequently and effectively. However, communication relies not only on a message being sent, but also on the message being received. The most effective way for members of the community to ensure they do receive the messages is to ‘follow’ the ‘blog’ part of this site by entering their email address in the box at the top of the right-hand column and clicking the ‘Follow’ button (and subsequently confirming when an email is received). Then, of course, prompting or joining in discussion using the ‘Comment’ boxes (either the new comment box at the bottom of each post or by clicking ‘reply’ over a comment to open a reply comment box – as I have done here). Communicating with those who do not use internet remains a problem (though the MCA’s proposed project for youngsters to ‘teach’ older non-users may improve this) but hopefully communications with non-internet users can be improved too in the future – grumpytyke

  2. Actions speak louder than words, that’s all we’ve heard from MAG,words nothing more.

  3. If evidence can be produced to back up the assertions in Alan Elsegood’s catalogue, and I understand that it can, this looks like no lesser ‘…gate’ than those much in the news of late – grumpytyke

  4. It’s unbelievable that the Bradford Council’s solicitor choose to not forward the flooding & drainage evidence to the Committee because that the evidence was “very technical” and that they “would not have the ability to go through that technical information”! (These are his exact words).

At the Regulatory & Appeals Committee meeting on 4th April, Councillor Doreen Lee said:

“It’s getting near dinner time now, and I know I’m hungry and I can’t think straight, but apart from that, is there any reason why.., you know I really agree with my two colleagues here, and I am a bit cross that, you know, you’re going away, and you’re going to another meeting next week, and they’ll have all the information and we’re sat here like five dummies without all the information. I really want to know if you can go away, come back after lunch, we need copy for us to look at, we’ll get it photocopied, you only need one. Once we’ve looked at it, surely we can then make a reasoned and a well-adjusted, a well-rounded decision on the planning matters only, as to whether this site is feasible. If we’ve got all the evidence we can’t go wrong, if we haven’t got the evidence, we’re making mistakes.”

After lunch and the site visit, they chose to proceed straight to the vote, knowing that they had not seen the evidence!

Voting was 4 to 3, on party lines yet again. Later she said on the phone that she was told to vote that way. This is in breach of the R&A Committee constitution.

  5. I would consider seriously about the consequences of publishing photographs, names, addresses and phone no’s without the owners consent on a website, which is inappropriate and may be reported to the relevant authorities to have the website closed down, not to mention legal action may be taken.

    • All the information given (including the photographs) is not only already in the public domain but is also already easily accessed on internet. It’s one of the few remaining bits of ‘democracy’ left in this country, and particularly in Bradford. People who put themselves up as ‘representatives’ cannot hide behind anonymity. All this website has done is bring the information to the attention of readers.

    • Are they public persons?? Well! they are representatives so I can find any information about them on Internet if I want

      • True, Information can be found on the internet, but as this website does not appear to have a privacy statement and you plan to release personal data, photographs or a derogatory comment to a third party then this is a disclosure and must be referred to in your privacy statement.
If not then a person has the right to take civil action if that person has been damaged by the manner in which you have processed his/her data.

        • From the Information Commissioner’s Office website:
An individual has a right to object to processing (of personal data) only if it causes unwarranted and substantial damage or distress.
          • Processing an individual’s personal data must be causing unwarranted and substantial damage or distress.
          • The objection must specify why the processing has this effect.
What is meant by “damage or distress”?
The Act does not define what is meant by unwarranted and substantial damage or distress. However, in most cases:
          • substantial damage would be financial loss or physical harm; and
          • substantial distress would be a level of upset, or emotional or mental pain, that goes beyond annoyance or irritation, strong dislike, or a feeling that the processing is morally abhorrent.

  6. Shameful dereliction of duty and the faith that was placed in them by the electorate. Not even the integrity to review the balance of information with their own eyes, and accepted at face value that they were too ill informed to be able to read and understand technical reports witheld from them by the planning department that was meeting regularly behind closed doors with the developers and land agenets. The same developers and and land agents that stand to make millions of pounds. and yet some of the councillors above, along with many other around the district, take the kings shilling for pretending to be guardians of fairplay, and quality spacial planning. Disgusting, appalling, discredited and unworthy are words that should be looked up in a dictionary, or is this considered beyond their technical ability as well.

  7. Are we allowed to lynch these scoundrels? …. or only expose them for their neglect of duty, slavish adherence to ‘party discipline’, their pretence of having considered the evidence (including that which they didn’t bother to read) and absence of concern for what they propose to do to our village and landscapes? It was Mrs Lee who said “I shall be accountable for this decision.” You never spoke a truer word!
