The now annual concert at St Mary’s Menston, to raise money for the Bambisanani Partnership project visit to Mnyakanya School in South Africa and work in that country by the Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra (LYJRO), provided a great night out on Friday. Individual talent from the school, including solo singers but also duos and trios in close harmony and some impressive piano were backed up by the school’s ukulele orchestra and, of course, the LYJRO.

Victorian Highroyds inmates at large?
Reports received suggest that ghost stories about Highroyds may be true. Two teenage hobby photographers visiting the estate recently to get photographs of the impressive architecture were set upon, at least verbally, by a haridan and a couple of male supporters.
Others suggest that the ‘ghosts’ were in fact just jobsworth employees who hold the view that all teenagers must be up to no good. If so, they need to get out and see the superb work many of our local youngsters are doing, including those involved in the above concert and the project which it supports.
