Summer Fayre with scarecrows, Poets & Preachers, Lizzie loses her locks for children with cancer and others, Bleach Mill House charity day

Don’t forget the Summer Fayre and scarecrow hunt at Menston Primary School today (Saturday). It’s a damp, misty morning but the BBC forecast is for a bit of sun by this afternoon. Let’s hope so but it’s worth a visit whether sunny or not.

Poets and preachers at the Parish Church

Sunday evening, there’s an interesting ‘Songs of Praise’ service at St John’s Parish Church. It has the theme ‘Poets and Preachers‘ and all will be welcome to join in the singing and learn something about the authors. The service begins at 6.00pm.

Seven year old Menston youngster Eliza (she prefers Lizzie!) Street had her beautiful long locks cut off on Thursday, not only to donate them for making wigs for children with cancer (Little Princess Trust) but also to raise money for the Menston charity her mum Beth founded to help rebuild schools destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Beth had her hair cut too for the same causes.

They are leaving together on Monday 6 July for the Philippines where they will not only donate the money raised by Angels for Children (eg from the Soul Night at Kirklands and the Summer Ball at the Craiglands Hotel earlier this year) but also a lot of medical equipment. Lizzie is taking treats to give to children.

It’s not too late to make a donation. Go to the Menston charity’s website.

Don’t forget another charity event next Saturday, 11 July. All proceeds from the annual charity event at Bleach Mill House will this year go to Menston youngster Charlotte Wormald, who has severe cerebral palsy. Go and have some tea or coffee and cakes beween 10am and 4pm and help hosts Sue and Simon Richmond to raise a record amount this year.

Bleach Mill House raises money throughout the year to support the Teenage Cancer Trust and will also be aiming for a record for this year for this too. Pop down for a full English breakfast with double-yolker eggs from the magnificent speckled hens on another day (or tea and cakes), to help make 2015 a record year for this ongoing fundraiser too.

A great time at the Angels’ Summer Ball

_DSC6272_edIf the pictures below are any indication then everyone seemed to have a great time at the Summer Ball organised by the Menston-based charity ‘Angels for Children‘ at the Craiglands Hotel last Saturday.

Some of the many pictures taken (© Petronela Prisca) are shown below – click any one to see them all larger as a slide show – but if you’d like to see all the pictures (there are more!) then come back to this site this coming weekend when there should be a link to them all.

Opened by talented young Menston singer-guitarist Hattie Barnes, the evening included dinner, dancing and games.

Angels for Children, run by Beth Street who, as you will see manages to keep smiling while working her socks off, is raising money to rebuild schools in the Philippines which were destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan. If you could not make the ball but would like to make a donation go to the charity’s website: http://www.angelsforchildren.org.uk/
